Closed Die, Open Die and Rolled Ring Forgings

Surfing Solutions supplies closed die forgings, open die forgings and rolled rings in carbon, alloy and stainless steel, as forged, heat treated or fully machined to your drawing.

A forging is chosen for strength: the grain follows the shape of the part. The forge shops we work with forge in the grade your drawing names, from steel with a mill certificate for every heat.

Each part goes from the billet to the finished piece in one line of work: heating, forging, heat treatment, then shot blasting and CNC machining. Across our six lines, we have delivered more than 2400 orders, each one checked against its drawing before it left the forge shop.

Where your part calls for it, we use manufacturers certified to ISO 9001 or IATF 16949, and a copy of the certificate comes with the quote.

Our Scope of Supply

Forged engine parts laid out on a bench: a crankshaft, gears and a connecting rodClosed Die

Formed between shaped dies on a hammer or a press, then trimmed and coined. The dies make it the right process for parts ordered in volume.

  • Crankshafts and camshafts
  • Connecting rods
  • Gear blanks and gears
  • Flanges: weld neck, slip on, blind and socket weld
  • Steering knuckles and arms
  • Yokes, forks and levers
  • Hubs and spindles
  • Valve bodies and bonnets

Worked between flat dies for shafts, discs and larger parts, where a closed die would not pay for itself.

  • Shafts and stepped shafts
  • Discs and blocks
  • Sleeves and hollow bars
  • Rolls and rollers

Upset, pierced and rolled into a ring with no weld in it, then heat treated and machined to your drawing.

  • Bearing rings
  • Gear ring blanks
  • Rings for flanges and slewing bearings
  • Rings with a rolled profile

What Comes With
Every Forging Order

A Certificate for Every Heat

The steel mill's heat certificate, and a check analysis of our own before the steel is forged.

Hardness After Heat Treatment

Hardness checked on every batch after heat treatment, with the heat treatment records sent with the order.

Every Piece Looked Over

A visual check of every piece for laps, folds and cracks, and the forged and machined sizes measured against your drawing.

Reports You Can File

A material certificate to EN 10204 3.1, or 3.2 with an inspector you name, and a CMM report for machined parts.
